On-demand CME/CE webcast previously recorded from the September 25, 2021, Hospital Medicine Summit
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of mortality in the US and a leading cause of serious long-term disability. Of the more than 795,000 strokes that occur each year, 25% are recurrent, yet the high risk of recurrent stroke or transient ischemic attack can be significantly mitigated with appropriate secondary stroke prevention measures. This educational program provides current, evidence-based guideline recommendations for a multidisciplinary approach to secondary stroke prevention focused on modifiable lifestyle and vascular risk factors. In addition, an overview of appropriate pharmacologic interventions includes recent randomized controlled trials demonstrating the key role of short-term DAPT for secondary stroke prevention, as well as consideration of combined antithrombotic therapy.
