Anemia risk is increased in patients with CKD:

Major health impacts include short-term impacts such as impaired sleep, movement, and psychological well-being, as well as long-term impacts such as volume overload (heart failure & hyperkalemia), decreased health-related quality of life, and increased hospitalization and mortality.

CKD-anemia risk varies for different racial and ethnic groups. Black, Hispanic, and American Indian patients have an increased CKD, kidney failure, and suboptimal treatment of end-stage kidney disease vs other groups. Among patients with CKD, the risk for anemia is 2.4 to 3.7 times greater in non-Hispanic Black patients.
